Kagiso ya Lefatshe (peace of earth)

Kagiso ya Lefatshe (peace of earth) is an ecology research project nestled in the foothills of the Magaliesburg mountain range in the north-west province of South Africa.
Our aim is to research and enhance the indigenous forests of the magaliesburg foothills.

We strive to develop a sustainable way to integrate human settlements with the natural environment by teaching the importance of respect for nature and use of appropriate technology.

We have helped and continue to help many people from disadvantaged backgrounds to find hope and ambition to develop skills and awareness to contribute to a new ecological future.

The legacy of Apartheid in South Africa goes much deeper than the petty racial segregation issues that most people around the world identify. It will take many generations to heal the rift. We believe it is through nature that we can achieve the best results, enhancing health and harmony amongst our fellow humans.

Permaculture, organic food production and forest farming is well developed on our project. We utilise natural building methods with low energy and carbon footprint

The magaliesburg mountain range is recognised a as the cradle of humanity as the oldest human fossils of hominid species  have been discovered on this range. It lies adjacent the largest known reserves on platinum on earth. But this wealth is a curse too, for the wanton despoliation of environment that goes with mining is all too evident .

With so much of the natural environment in our region having been destroyed by platinum mining over the past 50 years, there is an urgent need for the protection and preservation of indigenous fauna and flora species, underground water reserves and air quality.

KyaL is actively involved in environmental monitoring and campaigning against wanton environmental destruction by mining.
